The majority of our products are made using high quality, all natural ingredients, essential oils and colorants. However, some customers prefer a stronger scented and/or brightly colored soap that can only be achieved using manufactured scents and colors. All of our ingredients, natural and manufactured, are ethically sourced with quality and safety in mind. All natural products will be noted as such and a list of ingredients can be found in each product's description. None of our products contain the harsh chemicals found in commercially available bar soap.
We understand there are many soap makers out there and enjoy supporting their small businesses as well. We believe Wild Bee Farms' soaps standout due to the use of our very own honey from our on-site apiary. Honey is used in soap to increase lather and contains humectant and antimicrobial properties. In addition, we source our raw milk products locally in support of our community. Our milks are unadulterated to retain their natural enzymes and probiotics. We feel this leads to a creamier bar and lather, not to mention the peace of mind that comes with knowing exactly what you are using on your skin.
We formulate all of our products with mild, well-tested ingredients. If you have super sensitive skin, you would be best to start with our unscented or all natural soaps. I would recommend you test the bar by wetting it and building a little lather on the inside of your arm before using on your entire body. To date, there have been no skin issues reported by those who have used our products.
Our unscented soap contains no added fragrance via essential oil or manufactured fragrance oil. However, all soaps will have some very slight smell related to the oils, milks and butters used to make it. In some bars, we've found the addition of honey can lend a sweet smell to even those that have no added scent.
If you purchased one of our products scented with natural essential oils, you may notice the scent of the soap is not very strong or extremely faint. We note scent level in each product's description. The cold process soap making process is rough on natural scents as there are several pH changes from production to use. Citrus scents are especially prone to fading while patchouli, geranium and ylang ylang seem to hold up forever. There are usage limits for each essential oil, and to protect our customers and their skin, we will not exceed maximum usage for a stronger scent. Proper storage of your soap can also help. And by all means, do not save your soap for a special occasion. Life is short, use the pretty soap!
If you are seeking a strongly scented product, those scented with manufactured fragrance oils maintain their scent far longer. These products are noted with "fragrance" in the ingredient list.
In particular with natural colorants (we use clays and vegetable powders), the final color of our soap will vary from batch to batch. Most often, we do not get an exact color match to the last batch. Temperature and humidity levels during production and curing also affect natural (and some manufactured) colorants. Please expect the lavender soap you purchased this week to be a different color than the one you purchased a month ago. We promise, it will be just as fantastic. We will update product photos in the event of a major change in appearance.
In the event we made changes to a recipe, you will find note of this prominently displayed on the product page.
Usage and storage can greatly affect how long a bar of soap will last. For our family of four, a typical (3-4 ounce) bar can last three or more weeks. To extend the life of your soap, be sure it is stored between uses in a dry spot, preferably a soap dish that drains and away from the shower spray and excessive splashing. Soap sitting in a puddle will get mushy and melt much quicker. Mesh bath poufs and soap bags can greatly extend your soap's life and will also enhance lather. Storing soap away from direct sunlight will reduce color and scent fading. Storage in plastic bags is not recommended.
Hair is different than skin and requires a different formulation. Your hair will certainly be clean, but the ingredients in cold process bar soap can strip the natural oils from your scalp and hair. We are still perfecting our shampoo bar and hope to offer those soon, but for now, although there are people who use cold-process bar soap on their hair with no issue, it is not something we would recommend. If you do choose to use our bar soap on your hair, some have recommended an apple cider vinegar rinse afterward to balance your scalp's pH level.
We do not test on animals nor do we use ingredients that have been tested on animals or purchase from vendors who engage in animal testing. We do use animal products, including our honey and local raw milks, in many of our recipes, but have vegan products available as well.
Soda ash is the white, powdery substance that can appear on the surface of a bar of soap. Soda ash is formed when the sodium hydroxide in fresh soap batter reacts with carbon dioxide in the air during the curing process - typically during the first few days. Soda ash is harmless and in no way negatively affects the bar of soap. We enjoy the rustic look it can add to our natural bar soaps.
Most of our orders are shipped via USPS priority mail. As we are in a rural area, we take packages to the post office twice per week. In most cases, your order should arrive within seven business days of placing your order.
If you are relatively local to the Eureka, Mildred, Corsicana area, reach out to discuss drop off/pick up of your order before checking out. In most cases, arrangements can be made. Drop off/pick up is free of charge.
We request that you reach out to us with any concerns about your order or products received and allow us the opportunity to make it right. Given the nature of personal care products, we do not accept returns but will do our best to ensure your satisfaction.
When it comes to hair, we need gentler cleanser with a milder neutral pH level. Our shampoo bars are "Syndet" bars which stands for synthetic detergent, a type of cleansing agent made from surfactants. The reference to “synthetic” concerns the chemical process and has nothing to do with the ingredients. Most of these surfactants are naturally derived and are gentler on hair than traditional liquid shampoos and typically do not contribute to product buildup. Syndets are created through a blend of surfactants and fats making them perfect for hair and excellent for skin as well. These bars require an entirely different process than our cold process soap bars. Cold process soap is NOT recommended for hair due to their higher pH level.
